Time-Tested Technology Addresses Current Industry Concerns
Environmentally Sound And Cost Effective: Carlyle Open-Drive Compressors Offer Performance Advantages for Supermarket Applications
With fuel and other costs rising rapidly and concerns about the environment and global warming escalating, refrigeration customers are constantly looking for more efficient and environmentally sound solutions that will help solidify a brighter future for businesses and people alike. Welcome to the newest movement that has already achieved worldwide momentum: green thinking and environmental sustainability. Increasingly, Carlyle's 5-line open-drive compressors are looking like an answer for innovative and cost-effective retail and supermarket applications that are also environmentally responsible.
Open-drive compressors have existed for more than fifty years. The Carlyle line of compressors are made from high-quality cast iron and provide enough weight to significantly reduce compressor vibration. Also, with today's advanced laser alignment tools that align the compressor and its motor within a fine tolerance, vibration is minimized and the possibility of leaks significantly reduced.
An increasing number of supermarket chains have looked at the advantages of operating the 5H compressors in 2-stage systems at lower 1160 RPM speeds. The have found the advantages in reduced vibration, improved reliability, higher efficiencies and lower overall refrigerant charges. And the higher efficiencies and reduction in refrigerant charges not only reduce costs but help the environment.
Separating the compressor from the motor has a number of cost-effective and environmental advantages in supermarket applications. First, unlike a conventional system where the heat generated ends up in the condenser, with open-drive compressors the system does not need to remove heat produced by the motor. This can improve the energy efficiency of the system by up to 20% when combined with 2-stage system operation at lower 1160 RPM speeds. This solution provides greater flexibility and cost-savings than when using conventional compressors.
Carlyle 5-line compressors also minimize the amount of oil needed to maintain proper oil levels. First the compressor design has a very low oil circulation rate. And in low speed, 2-stage systems the unique oil management system used circulates the oil between compressors rather then building up. Many systems that have been built using open-drive compressors are also using significantly less refrigerant, and can use R-404A, a non-ozone-depleting alternative. Open-drive compressor systems that are now operational across the country have been designed using less piping and fewer components, making them more cost-effective to build while also reducing the potential for leaks and minimizing maintenance concerns.
Many feel the biggest advantage of using open-drive compressor technology in new store systems is that these compressors have been performing efficiently and reliably for many years, where as other potential solutions are relatively untested in the real world. And if 50 years of exceptional performance is not enough of an advantage, Carlyle also offers a standard 3-year warranty on all 5-line compressors.

Carlyle Compressor Success Story Competition
We all understand the reliability and durability of the Carlyle compressor line, but how do we inform our potential customers? One of the best ways to demonstrate to the industry the outstanding qualities of the Carlyle line is to show by example, with exceptional case studies.
Carlyle will award two $100 gasoline cards to the two readers who send us the most extraordinary examples showing the durability and reliability of the Carlyle line.
What are we looking for? We are looking for examples of where Carlyle compressors are being used in heavy-duty situations and continue to perform exceptionally. Are the compressors performing under extreme conditions? Is the company using them so pleased with the superior quality that they are now using Carlyle compressors exclusively? Did outstanding customer service give Carlyle the edge over the competition?
The winning examples will be used to promote Carlyle compressors throughout the refrigeration industry, therefore the companies using the compressors must be willing to allow Carlyle to use their name in potential press releases, product literature and publicity photos.
Submit a brief outline of your example via email, along with your name, phone number and e-mail address, by July 11th 2008. Entries will be judged based on how well they highlight the reliability and/or durability of Carlyle compressors. All decisions will be final and made by Carlyle in its sole discretion. Winners will be announced in August and the top entries will each receive a $100 dollar gasoline card. Employees of Carlyle, its parents, their respective affiliates and subsidiaries and the immediate family members of each are not eligible. Void where prohibited by law. All federal, state and local laws and regulations apply.
Be sure to forward this information to anyone you know who might have a story to share.
Compressor Comparison Video Offered Online
Carlyle has published a video presentation explaining the difference between "remanufactured" and "rebuilt" compressors. The eight-minute video is viewable online via the Carlyle and Carlyle Certified Refrigeration Partners websites (www.carlylecompressor.com and www.carlyleccrp.com, respectively).
The video details the process whereby Genuine Carlyle remanufactured compressors are broken down to their smallest components and fully reconstructed to current OEM specifications employing the latest technological advances. With remanufactured compressors, any damaged or worn parts are discarded and replaced with new ones. The video explains that "rebuilt" compressors, on the other hand, typically reuse any functional parts even if they may be sub-par.
The video also cites the UL seal of approval as a method of comparing compressors. All Genuine Carlyle remanufactured compressors are produced to these internationally recognized safety standards. In contrast, the video demonstrates that few rebuilt compressors meet UL safety levels, thus risking code violations and potentially invalidating the original UL listing for the entire system.
Watch the video now to learn the key benefits of using remanufactured compressors over rebuilt imitations.
